Val’s Eulogy

Good afternoon my name is Bob Dailey it is privilege to have been asked to present this eulogy for my wonderful aunty Val

Who was born 1st December 1931 she of course was christened Valerie Dawn Patterson.

As she went through live she much preferred Val

Val was the 6th & youngest child of Walter & Amy Patterson living in Hume Street Westdale not far just west of here.

Her only surviving sibling is Francis who unfortunately could not be here today but I’m sure is spending this time in her own way with loving thoughts of dear sister Val.

When Val left school she went to work at the Egg Board here in Tamworth this would eventually lead her to meet a special truck driver and another Walter that being this handsome Walter John Dailey (my uncle)

On the 27th July 1951 she married her Walter and the family grew from there.

Their two children Ken and Leanne grew to Grandchildren Louise, Walter Kate & Amy

Great Grandchildren    Jessica, Mathew, Jackson Ryan and Hayden

Aunty Val adored her children, grandchildren & great grand children every time we came for to visit her the first couple of hours were about them and the current photo’s

Val had a close relationship with her siblings with fishing trips to the coast a regular occasion amongst other activities.

Val was a good person who loved life and her family without reservation.

She loved her horses especially later in life her horse & sulky activities as you can see in the photo on the back of your order of service booklet today.

Val done lots of jobs in her working life including The Egg Board (which we are most grateful as this steered her life) cleaning at The Aero Club, Farm work for Roy Pike and many years cleaning at The Duri Public School.

In 1953 Val & Walter moved into their home at 17 Stuart Ave (which I remember good times fondly)

In 1964 after spending a little time renting they moved to Duri they lived together with Ken & Leanne until the sad loss of Wal in Sydney Hospital after a fight with cancer in 1969.

Wals ashes and memorial are in fact in the grounds of this very church.

Val was a Christian person attending this very church on numerous occasions during her life she also shared with others the funeral of her grandson in-law and the happy occasion of her daughter Leanne’s marriage to Gary in this church.

Today as we meet here to reflect our memories of Val and to pay our respect to this wonderful lady.

My Aunty Val your mother your mother in law your sister, your Aunty, your Grandmother , Your Great Grandmother and you Friend was a good person who as I said before loved life.

She was humble lady who adored her little house at Duri which had not changed after all these years even down to the outside toilet down the back yard her beloved animal companions old Jok who was previously her brother Lloyds Cockatoo and jack her trusty companion of the last fifteen years that never wanted to leave her side.

As a True Tamworth born and bred girl she loved country music and especially Slim Dusty.

She loved the radio especially of a night time.

She loved going to The Services Club which we always done when we were in Tamworth for her favourite meal prawns.

Last night as a family 9 of us went to the Services Club to reflect on those dinners with this special lady and had some prawns for her.

In the last couple of years as her health deteriorated she spent more time at Leanne’s for which we are all grateful.

Earlier this year she moved into Masonic home where she enjoyed,  except for the food, and the reason being it was too good as she told everyone she had increased in size.

Although here in front of us her mortal remains lay I’m sure she is looking down on us in the company of many loved ones including Walter who has waited 47 years for this reunion who could possibly be grudge them this day.

Thank You

My First Christmas in Heaven

I see the countless
Christmas trees
around the world below
With tiny lights, like Heaven’s stars,
reflecting on the snow

The sight is so spectacular;
please wipe away the tear
For I am spending Christmas with
Jesus Christ this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs
that people hold so dear
But the sounds of music can’t compare
with the Christmas choir up here.

I have no words to tell you,
the joy their voices bring,
For it is beyond description,
to hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me,
I see the pain inside your heart.
But I am not so far away,
We really aren’t apart.

So be happy for me, dear ones,
You know I hold you dear.
And be glad I’m spending Christmas
with Jesus Christ this year.

I sent you each a special gift,
from my heavenly home above.
I sent you each a memory
of my undying love.

So have a Merry Christmas and
Wipe away that tear
Remember, I am spending Christmas with
Jesus Christ this year
