  1. I have very fond memories of Betty from our school days & church fellowship together. Our lives took different paths but we reconnected about 30 years ago and kept in touch since. She was a wonderful person whom I am so privileged to have had as a
    lifelong friend.

Betty was a deeply loved and incredibly important part of the Dickie/McGovern family for many years. She was there through so much of our lives — offering quiet support, steady kindness, and a listening ear whenever it was needed. Betty had a beautiful way of making you feel safe, welcome, and cared for, without ever asking for anything in return. She shared in our milestones, our everyday moments, and the times when we simply needed comfort and reassurance. To us, she was family, and her presence shaped our lives in ways that will never be forgotten. Her warmth, generosity, and gentle strength will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Juliana and I will sorely miss our dear Betty, who has been the best neighbour we have ever had. Indeed having Betty live next door was a big factor in our decision to settle down in Orange rather than return to our home in Newcastle, thirteen years ago.

Betty had moved in not long before we rented No 98 for 12 months. We got to know her quickly. As our first Christmas approached she asked if we would like to help her organise a neighbourhood party so that the 3 of us could get to know more of our neighbours and hasten our settling in. That get-together with our neighbours continued until Covid and has now been revived by the family in No 89. Betty was warmly welcomed and recognised as the initiator of this wonderful annual gathering.

We loved how Betty took such an interest in our little family, our daughter, and her wife, and our dogs. She went to the trouble of making notes in her diary to assist her memory and we greatly admired that she did that.

She was highly entertained by our dogs and loved a yarn about our interests and activities.

We are already missing her quiet but welcoming presence in the house next door.

Thank you Betty for your kindness. You have added so much to our lives. You deserve your rest.

Ma was always the biggest supporter of her kids and grand kids and great grand kids. She had the biggest heart and always had a smile to match the size of her heart, lighting up every room. From helping me drive to football games in high school, to asking about and keeping up with all my music shows to our morning coffees, I’ll always carry her with me. Thanks for everything Ma, much love from Ethan & Oliver

I met Betty when my parents moved in next door, and when my partner and I moved to Orange she was very welcoming and even gave us a generous gift of a wooden Trug for our new garden. We kept in contact over coffee or text messages, and commiserated over our various physical ailments. I will miss her, especially her sense of humour, and think of her whenever I plant flowers in our Trug.
