MacSWAN, Dr David Finlayson

Dr David Finlayson MacSWAN

51, adored and beloved partner of Ruth Cullen, stepdad to Lily,

and Lord and Master of Hermia, Schlomo, and Snug, died suddenly at his home in Mosman on 14-1-11.
DAVID was the Artistic Director of Shakespeare by the Sea which ran for 24
years at Balmoral Beach, and was considered to be the first of its kind in the world.

DAVID died on the opening night of the 25th and final season, which will continue until March 6th.

Friends and fans of DAVID, and of Shakespeare by the Sea, are welcome to attend the Funeral Service to celebrate his life, to be held at Northern Suburbs Crematorium, Delhi Road, North Ryde, on Thursday (January 27, 2011),
commencing at 12.15 p.m. in the North Chapel.

A group of us have been going to the Shakespeare by the Sea event for over 20 years, occasionally braving wind, rain, always braving kookaburras, cockatoos and flying foxes.

This year has been so sad to hear David`s familiar introductory and concluding statements delivered by others. Yet again, however, a lovely evening in a glorious setting after a late swim, a picnic tea with good friends and the immortal bard to enjoy.

Vale, David, we will miss this most auspicious part of a summer Sydney.

–Wendy.

  1. Oh no I have just found out about the death of David, I am so sorry to hear this news. Over the past month he has come into my mind and I thought I would try to reach out to him.
I was friends with David many years ago when we both were performing with PACT theatre. We occasionally crossed paths over the years and were always so happy to say hello and catch up with what was going on in our lives.
So sad today but so glad to have known you David. Xx Kerrie
